A calm afternoon at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo turned into chaos when the main prayer hall suddenly collapsed during the Asr prayer. Students who were praying in congregation rushed to escape as the sound of the falling structure echoed throughout the school compound.
Witnesses reported that the roof began to crack before collapsing within seconds, giving almost no warning. Several students suffered minor injuries from falling debris, but thanks to the quick response of teachers and staff, everyone was immediately evacuated.
Emergency teams, firefighters, and police arrived shortly after to inspect the structure and ensure no one was trapped inside. The entire area has now been cordoned off and declared unsafe.
School administrators stated that the prayer hall is undergoing a full investigation to determine the cause of the collapse — whether it was due to weakened structural integrity, construction issues, or weather-related factors.
Photos and videos of the collapsed building have quickly spread on social media, prompting waves of prayers, sympathy, and support from alumni and the wider community.
Reconstruction and safety assessments will now be the school’s top priority, while prayer activities have temporarily been moved to another part of the compound.
